KO SURGES TO LEAD

Teenage sensation Lydia Ko has surged into the joint lead at the end of Day 2 of the 2012 ISPS Handa NZ Women’s Open.  Although she will start in the second to last group, tomorrow will be an exciting day.  With crowds exceeding 7,000 for the first two days and fair, with morning rain and then mostly cloudy weather predicted for the morrow all looks good.
Although not yet confirmed the cut appears to be at 3 over par.
More to come.

MEDIA NOTIFICATION – AUSSIES IN CONTENTION Australian Lindsey Wright will be looking to turn the tables on 14-year old Lydia Ko in tomorrow’s final round of the Euro 200,000 ISPS Handa New Zealand’s Women’s Open being played at Pegasus Golf and Sports Club just outside Christchurch. The 32-year old went head to head with the 14-year-old three weeks ago at the Bing Lee / Samsung Women’s NSW Open, where Ko came out on top. For Wright, who is looking to capture her first Ladies European Tour title, it won’t be an easy task, she along with Ko share the lead at six-under par with Columbian Mariajo Uribe (68), South Korean Haeji Kang (69) American Alison Walshe (70) and Spaniard Carlota Ciganda (69). Wright is not the only Australian in prime position to win, fellow compatriots Julia Boland (68) and Stephanie Na (69) are just one back from the leading pack. The pair share seventh position with Americans Cindy LaCrosse (67) and Gerina Piller (71) and Canadian Lorie Kane (67). Americans Cara Freeman (70) and Danielle Kang (72) share 12th position at four-under par. Whilst another 13 players are sitting at three-under and two-under par and not out of it. Defending champion Australian Kristie Smith is at one-under par and tied for 27th and still has some chance of defending. The cut was made at 3-over-par and 58 players will tee it up in the final round.
