Ryan Fox has finished his Presidents Cup debut with two wins and two losses after the United States produced the biggest final-day comeback in tournament history to beat the International Team 17-13 at Medinah.
The Internationals entered Sunday singles holding a commanding 10½-7½ advantage, putting them within touching distance of their first Presidents Cup victory since 1998.
Instead, the Americans dominated the final session, collecting 9½ of the 12 available points to overturn the three-point deficit and claim an 11th consecutive Presidents Cup.
Fox faced Xander Schauffele in the anchor singles match and went down 2 and 1.
Schauffele built a three-hole advantage through nine before Fox fought back late, winning the 15th and 16th to extend the contest.
The match ended at the 17th, where both players made birdie, securing Schauffele the point.
Fox can still reflect on an encouraging first Presidents Cup appearance.
After losing his opening four-ball match alongside Adam Scott, the New Zealander bounced back brilliantly in foursomes, partnering Min Woo Lee to victories on both Friday and Saturday.
That left Fox with a 2-2 record from his four matches.
The Internationals had appeared well placed to make history after sweeping Friday’s foursomes 5-0 and maintaining a three-point advantage through Saturday.
But the final day quickly swung towards the home side.
Cameron Young opened with a 3 and 2 victory over Ryo Hisatsune before Justin Thomas and world No 1 Scottie Scheffler added further American points.
Tom Kim and Sungjae Im responded with victories for the Internationals, but the momentum remained firmly with the hosts.
Chris Gotterup defeated Christiaan Bezuidenhout 1-up, Patrick Cantlay beat Adam Scott 2 and 1 and Collin Morikawa edged Hideki Matsuyama 1-up.
Jackson Koivun then beat Si Woo Kim 2-up before rookie Jacob Bridgeman delivered the decisive point with a 1-up victory over Min Woo Lee, winning the 18th to secure the Cup.
Nick Taylor and Russell Henley later halved their match.
The result leaves the International Team still searching for its second Presidents Cup victory, 28 years after its breakthrough at Royal Melbourne.
For Fox, however, Medinah provided another significant milestone in a memorable season, with the Kiwi contributing two valuable points in his first appearance in the biennial team event.
