Ryan Fox and Michael Hendry will headline one of the best local professional fields for some time in New Zealand this weekend at the Cardinal Logistics Whitford Pro-AM.
Conducted by the NZ PGA and supported by Tony Gorton at Cardinal Logistics, the Pro-am will run across Saturday and Sunday at Whitford Park Golf Club, only a half an hour drive south-east of Auckland Central.
Fox returns to competitive golf for the first time since he became a Father in December and he looks set to blow out the cobwebs after an extended break alongside Hendry and others such as Luke Toomey, Gareth Paddison, James Anstiss, Ryan Chisnall and Daniel Hillier.
NZ PGA General Manager Dominic Sainsbury said the golf play on the weekend will be impressive.
“We’ve got 49 amateur teams so that’s like 150 amateurs all looking forward to some pretty good golf,” Sainsbury said.
“This tournament is always pretty good, it’s normally like this even without covid, all the other tours are usually in their off-season, and just before it all kicks off, our top players tend to use this as a bit of a warm-up.
“Foxy (Ryan Fox) is certainly going to be doing that, he loves the course, he’s got a lot of supporters that come out and he wants to showcase his talent and inspire a few more people to play as well.”
The tournament will see two shotgun starts, one at 8am and one at 1pm. 25 teams tee off at 8am and 25 teams tee off at 1pm and then a seeded draw will be conducted so the best pros will go out last on Sunday.
Anyone wishing to watch some great golf is welcome to attend.
“Everyone is still a little bit in that new year sort of relaxed mode as well so you get some really good engagement,” Sainsbury explained.
The Cardinal Logistics Whitford Park Pro-am begins on Saturday at 8am.
