Kiwi Steven Alker has shot a stunning 7-under second round 65, backing up his 67 on day one to be just one shot off the lead in the Korn Ferry Tour’s Price Cutter Charity Championship at the Highland Springs Country Club in Springfield Missouri.
The US-based New Zealander has had a lean year on the tour, reaching only five weekends out of 12 and his highest finish to date was tied for 11th and that was back in the first event of the year in February.
Today, teeing off on the 10th hole he parred the first five holes before grabbing a birdie on 15 and then an eagle three on the par-five 18th.
He shot another four birdies on the back nine to finish the first two rounds without dropping a shot on 12-under, tied for second with a group including American Austin Smotherman and one shot behind the leader Roberto Diaz from Mexico.
Fellow Kiwi Nick Voke has shot two rounds of 68 to also be in the hunt currently tied for 32nd on 8-under.
