Major Local Events Postponed or Cancelled Due to Lockdown

events cancelled

A number of upcoming local golf events have been affected because of the Covid-19 Lockdown across the country including the postponement of The Mount Open, the first event of the new Charles Tour season.

Mount Maunganui Golf Club have decided to postpone the event, to be held from 23-26 September 2021, due to the uncertainty of alert levels and the high probability the country might still be at Alert Level 2 or 3 at that time.

The Mount Maunganui Golf Club are unable to run the event under Alert Level 2 and with the need for athletes to prepare for the event and make travel and accommodation bookings, both the Mount Maunganui Golf Club and Golf New Zealand felt that providing athletes with a decision as soon as possible was the best course of action.

Alongside, both the Men’s and Women’s 2021 North Island Strokeplay Championships have been cancelled.

The events were due to be played at the Whakatane Golf Club in conjunction with the Bay of Plenty Open from 17-20 September but due to a large number of events scheduled to be played during the remainder of the year and the possibility of future events being effected by Covid-19 alert levels, there were no suitable dates for the event to be rescheduled for 2021.

Further announcements regarding future Charles Tour events are expected within weeks.
